I recently bought a maroon clownfish. at the store he was swimming all around their tank. When I put him in my tank(with no animonie)he found a hiding spot in between some rocks and will only come out when feeding. Can anyone tell me why? I have one damsel(three stripe),dragon wrasse, and a little gobie, 55lb tank please help?

give it more time, its scared just been brought to a new tank with new tank mates, by a huge animal that transported in a magic container that holds liquid in a invisible wall(also known as a plastic bag)

Ya man, I bought a pair of clowns a few days ago and when I brought them home, and after acclimation, put them in the tank one of them was swimming around having a great time but the other was hanging out under a rock breathing fast and wouldnt eat. I was kinda worried myself, but the next morning he was breathing fine and eating like a happy fat kid. Just a little stress. And at least hes eating so thats a good sign.

yea just give the lil guy some time to get used to his surroundings and to get unstressed. Maybe it is just me but keep an eye on the three stripe damsel and the dragon wrasse. I've seen some damsels like that become quite aggressive even tho they arent the biggest fish out there and I know that a dragon wrasse can become more aggressive as it gets bigger. So either it is getting used to the tank still or his tankmates are picking on him.

Hate to be the spelling police but its "anemone"

And I understand tanks can be heavy but I think you mean 55g (or gallon) tank

also would like to add anemone's are more trouble than their worth they move about and sting other corals till they find a spot they like, they are hard to take care of and you have to feed them... clowns can host in just about anything, to us new guys that means rubbing/hiding in the coral. I have even heard of clownfish hosting in zoa’s, I would recommend something easy to take care of and nice to look at like frogspawn or hammerheads.

    Good luck reefing
