I believe that closed brains have smaller polyps and open brains are larger.

Well there are many different kinds of both open and closed brains. Some closed species are pineapple brain(Favite species), Green maze brain(Platygyra species), and honeycomb brain(Goniastrea species). There are also more, but I won't name them all. The only two open brains I know of are the Green Open Brain(Trachyphyllia geoffroyi) and Lobophyllia Brains(Lobophyllia species). Open brains are much hardier and easier to keep than closed brains. I think Green Open Brains are one of the easiest corals out there to find and take care of.

Congerats, can't wait to see the pic! Does that qualify as an impulse buy?

Yeah, know the feeling. Been staying away from my regular stores to keep my from buying anything that I HAVE TO HAVE. Thats how I got my open brain. Stared at if for close to a half hour and was like, give me the damn thing. Love it though. Most om corals were impulse, but hey what are ya gonna do. Noticed that I have some baby mushrooms growing under the shrooms already there. Might try to move them to another rock and spread them out more.
