cleaning sand bed

    So to get this straight, every week, you completely siphon out all your sand and put it back into the tank?

    No no, that would drive me nuts. I siphon out all the waste that's in the sand, with a gravel vac. The sand gets sucked up a few inches, then I pinch the hose the reduce the siphon, making the sand fall back in place.

    I'm going to pick one of those up and try the same thing. I also HATE the look of that brown gunk just underneath the top of the sand bed.

    I've tried the siphon and it doesn't work well for me. Bare bottom with starboard is in my future. I'm gonna do a tank reset or upgrade soon so I have to make up my mind. I got a bit of Tongan stick rock curing at the moment so my sps can get off the bottom of the tank.
