My new clam's intake is getting larger. Is that a good sign or bad?

Generally not good , it either needs more light or is not feeling well. Where is it placed and is it directly underneath the lights?

I'll move it up in my tank then.

It's on the sand right now, under an ATI Sunpower 6x54.

I just transfered everything from a 55 into a 125 this past week including the clam. It was on the bottom of the tank in the 55 previously. Today when i woke up the intake was much larger while in the new 125. So I suppose it just isn't getting enough lights now that it's on the bottom of a 125 and not a 55.

What type of lighting was it under and what lighting is it under now?

It's under the same lighting, just in a larger/deeper tank. I'll throw a picture up in a moment

Actually it looks pretty good, not bleached or withdrawn. I agree might just be adjusting to the new system. If you can move it up just a little it may benifit and it may be fine where it is, hard call. Nice maxima BTW.

Give a day or two to settle in. Maximas are rock boring clams and like being on rock. Did you tear it off what it was attached it the 55?
