i agree that a deresa might be your best bet as a beginner clam but they can get big. crocea's tend to stay small but are more light demanding. if you don't want to go the mh route, you could find yourself a nice t-5 unit with individual reflectors such as the tek light by sls. just a suggestion. (nevermind about the t-5, i just read your sig)

I would have to agree with the derasa, plus with good conditions they grow very fast which is always good to see in your tank!! Good luck.

    Quezon City,
Experience teaches well. A clam might survive under PC lights for a short duration. Same goes to corals. But when it thrives after a year can you absolutely say your setup works.

Clams even under NO and placed 6-8 inches close to the light source will survive up to year. Before it finally dies. So unless youi just want it for a year, buy MH.

well its good to see this thread has had a long life. i bought the crocea you see as my avatar, a short time after i started this thread. its been a little over a year now. a couple of weeks ago i noticed that there are new ridges near the top of the clam shell. i am guessing this is signs of growth so thanks to all of you who helped me get started with it. it seems very happy
