    Basically, he was just tired of keeping everything in check for his sps so he got rid of them, all else is the same.
    And he still has the 2 250w halides over his 55g lol

    not adding anymore fish... just getting rid of all the calcifying corals

    Good point...there are a lot of fish that will nip at clams.

    Clams are more forgiving and will tolerate less pristine water, but otherwise they do need many of the same params as SPS...again, with only a couple of clams in the tank, demand on the tank will be much less...a reasonable water change schedule should keep them fairly happy I would think.

    Whats the lowest Ca can get before a clam will stop growing?

    That Would be dependant upon the other levels in the tank too. Magnesium strontium and ca can be used interchangeably. It's also dependant upon alk since alk is needed (and this is usually the limiting reagent before ca). But calcium levels can drop very low before growth completely stops. Like below 200ppm

    This whole time growth will be slowing however since it's harder and harder to bond the ca as it's depleted

    will the tank with the clams have reef lighting over it?
