You ask a tough question my friend, if forced via gun to head I would run CPE over Rowaphos. CPE offers the same phosphate removing capabilities as Rowaphos plus all the benefits of carbon and lasts for 6-8 months (tho I change every 3)

For several years I decided not to perform water changes, in order to be successful at this I used Chemi-Pure, actually I used all three Chemi-Pure, Purigen and Rowaphos with these three beauties in a canister, my refugium, skimmer w/ ozone and a handful of bio-balls all I had to worry about was top off water – so I automated this and the tank was like a self-sufficient person. All I needed to do was wipe the glass with a magnetic cleaner. I didn’t even feed the fish – that was the reefs job. This went on for several years, no issues. But admittedly I became bored so I do water changes again swap out this media more often.

So why select just one? Is this a cost issue or a space issue?

Thanks for the info. it's more a vanity issue, I don't have a sump and hate having too many pumps hanging all over the tank. Also, if I don't have to add the cost of replacing another media each month or so, I'd rather not.

Very interesting about your tank and having it be a self-serving entity, that's pretty cool.

I actually decided to experiment with Seachem SeaGel in my reactor for now. I have heard positive things about it, seems to be one of the few combos of carbon + phos remover that I have read about. I do realize it's an alum based media. We'll see how it goes.
