    bulb grease! Sometimes the simplest solutions are too close to the nose to see.

    Matt, careful with that tape. The sockets get extremely hot, electrical grease for the win.

    If only I knew about that stuff before my reefkeeper PC4 module wouldn't have shorted out :-(

    try this tape its called safety tape its a marine product we use on the boat and its great for emergencies as it will make a leaking hose water tight... should keep water out if you wrap the base of the bulb and socket and keep any of that grease in and prevent it from getting in the water... its a little pricey not bad just not as cheap as e-tape. it stretches like e-tape and think it would work great i was actually thinking about this today because i was thinking of turning my fuge section into my zoa frag tank...and using a par bulb like yours.
