I have diatoms growing on the glass, is it safe to use a razorblade. I known you're not supposed to put metal in the tank.

They make stainless steel razor blades, which would be acceptable to use. You can also get scrapers with changeable blades (either plastic of stainless steel). Although I would think for diatoms all you would need is a Mag Float?

Brian, I'm assuming that you said glass and it's not an acrylic tank correct? I use a razorblade quite frequently on my glass. If it's acrylic, whole other ball game.

I have a scraper with stainless steel blade. Works great for coralline.

While saltwater is corrosive, it won't dissolve metal that quickly. :)

If you get them just make sure that there isnt a coating on the blades. I picked up a pack from lowes a while back that had an oil coating on the blades. They were obviously not used, just something to look out for! You'll be able to smell the oil if its on them

Just be very careful of your silicon at the corners, top, and bottom glass.A good razor blade will cut it very easily.
