    Hey guys,

Can you install sumps without drilling, for example I have seen some over flow boxes or the like on some sites but im not sure how good this is? Has anyone used these with good effect?

Can you install your inlet valves to come over the top of the tank without drilling either?

Or should I just drop this idea and drill the beast?

    Yes, and yes. :)

If your tank is still empty, drilling is your best option. However, a good HOB overflow will work quite well; just match the flow rate of the return pump with the flow rating of the box.

Yes it can be done. Just make sure your overflow can match the size of your tank. As for your return it can be done over the back or side of the tank. Just gonna cost you a couple extra 90 degree PVC elbows.

    Thanks for the advice guys,

On flow rates, should they both be equal or can I use a larger over flow rate and a smaller pump rate? Or is it just that the pump cant be quicker than the over flow?

A overflow works by... Overflowing. If the water required to overflow is in the sump, it won't have enough to overflow.

Save yourself the time. Go drill it.

I was very nervous about drilling my tank but am so glad that i did. I previously used and overflow and was never comfortable with the set up. The drilling was so easy that i never should have been concerned or nervous. It took less than 5 minutes and was as simple as could be.

It might be a silly question, but where do you actually drill the holes?

I'm in the same boat, U- tube siphon or drill. I know how to setup an overflow with a u-tube, not so much by drilling.

    I feel your pain.

Is there anyone out there that has a step by step guide or pictures on where to drill etc and how to set it up?
