Can I use this filter for saltwater?

my 10 year old son wants to convert his 20g freshwater to saltwater. But I just lost my job so I can't buy new equipment. Can a hang on back freshwater filter work?

yup I ran a 10 gallon for many years using the same type filter. Filter pads need cleaned and changed quite a bit and can get very expensive

Convert the filter to a refugium. You can get an aquaclear filter for cheap. Like $20 at petco. I was going to do this but decided on a sump. I have a buddy that runs 3 on a 55 so it can be done.

It can be done ball game, just keep up with water changes and filter cleanings regularly.

 

Yes. I run my 15g with an aquaclear filter, i don't use their filter media. I use filter floss and my carbon in a media bag.


I change my floss weekly and my carbon monthly or so.

I will suggest cleaning the filter and pump monthly...lots of detritus builds up in there and will cause nutrient issues.
