I have a 180 reef tank (350 gal total with ref and sumps) I have always wanted a clam and I just got my first one about 2 months ago. It is a 5 in. Corceca that I won in a drawing......not bad. Anyway it is doing great and I have it located near the top of my tank as I only have t5 lighting.

I have the Nova Extreme 72" t5 fixture (468 watts)

My question is with my lighting, could I put a dersa or two at the bottom of my tank? I know that they require less lighting than other clams....but not sure if that is enough light in a 2 ft deep tank.

    Thoughts....

It doesn't matter what size any are if they are healthy as they have sufficient zooxanthellae to live. A larger one has more ability to handle stress.

my understanding is that the smaller clams (smaller than 3 in) are more reliant on filter feeding.

good thing about smaller clam is that they aren't so picky about place to stay... They can easily affix to a small rock. But that is for me where realstate is a problem...
