I am not sure what the level is, but Calcium , alkalinity, magnesium and other salts, are all related and the water can only hold so much in solution. Depending on the other water parameters, I have heard of tanks precipitating, or what looks like a snowstorm in the tank. Calcium falling out of solution in solid particles and once it starts, it is difficult to stop like a chain reaction :)
Alot of municipal water supplies have calcium levels around 300 - 500 = hard water, mine might be a little higher .If you drank 5 gallons of water with a calcium reading of 600 you wouldnt get calcium poisoning but that was funny.
Wow i had no idea the calicium levels were that high in tap.... When I test our water i get zero all across the boards. We dont get unfiltered local water at my house...its run through a big softener and ro/di with uv as well. I do know that calcium will percipitate over time if not consumed by calcifying critters though. Yes there is a level. Im not sure what it is ( I try to forget the horrors of college chem).

There is a good article on calcium and alk in the December issue of Reefkeeping.com! I don't fully understand the chemical aspects quite yet but it still is very informative!! ;)

    Good link Fishez!!
