I am new to marine fishkeeping and thought that I would join up to ask a few questions? My tank is 10 weeks old, 380L with 50kg of live rock, live sand with a dwarf fuzzy, tomato clown, ornate wrasse and bubble tip anemone.
The problem I have is micto bubbles everywhere. Having read a few threads I am not sure if the problem is algae or the skimmer. I am running a V2 skim 600, external hung, that has a bubble trap to prevent the bubbles entering the tank.
The bubbles cover the sand, live rock and stick to the powerheads in the tank.
I also have brwon algae covering the sand .
    Water parameters seem fine

    Please help

regardless if params seem fine, you shouldn't have an anemone in such a young tank. JMHO...

but on the bubbles...it is probably definitely the skimmer. How to fix that? usually people put sponges at the outlet of the skimmer, if thats not an option...try tuning the skimmer so that it doesn't put out bubbles.

how long ago did you put the skimmer on? maybe it's just breaking in? like ermano said, you may be able to adjust it. or try adding different types of foam in the bubble trap. I also agree 10 weeks is a little early for a BTA.

you said parameters seem fine....what does that mean? do you test?

thanks for the prompt reply chaps. The skimmer has a bubble trap with a sponge and there is no evidence of bubbles been pumped into the tank. The skimmer has been running since day 1 so is 10 weeks old. Will this be obvious to the naked eye?
I have tested water parameters and will post the readings in the morning.
Is there any chance that this is bubble algae??

hi there, with the v2 micro bubble stopper raise it so its just out the water

are the bubbles big or micro size? if they are biggeR then its not the skimmer,
also has the skimmer got two sponge filters in? there should be a black one that surrounds the tube and a white one that sits in the bottom!!
its a new tank so it may be just settling, i think its too early a stage for anything yet!!

I think you might have rushed your tank a little, your just 10 weeks old. I can’t see the micro bubbles, but you are covered with Diatoms. Can you describe your set up more thoroughly please? I suspect you may be lacking water flow. How long has that bubble tip been in your system ?

What are the parameters that you have tested?
