I need a little help. I noticed that there is a green stringy algae and brown algae growing on the part of my filter and skimmer where the water pours into the tank? What is this and what is the cause? My nitrates are 0 as well as phos? any ideas?

I have brown/green hair algae growing in my overflows. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it doesn't spread, it's fine where it is and simply provides a little extra filtration. Keep it in check though to make sure that it doesn't plug up the works on the filter.

Can you post a picture of the algae that you're complaining about?
