Bright Eyes DIY LED glasses should be an instant hit with the LED reef aquarium crowd and many others. Who wouldn't want a pair of glasses with 174 programmable LEDs on them? The Bright Eyes glasses will play graphics or video off an SD card or can be controlled by any microcontroller platform as they are Arduino compatible. With sensors such as the now stock microphone, Bright Eyes can interact with their environment. Will they cause us to stop interacting? Possibly. Or proclaim - "Are we not men? We are Devo!" 'Specs' below.

Very interesting, while I find the glasses themselves quite ugly the concept behind them of teaching people to program is quite ingenious, creating your own logos or messages could become popular with some people with a little creativity behind them. Good write up Matt.

These cost real money? I thought the £ was a symbol for monopoly money... :-/

Kool concept but I want RGB LEDs. I'll stick to my Adafruit belt at that cost...

Aye. I thought about that. I believe part of that cost is to get this project off the ground as they are in need of funding to produce 100 of these kits.

So the 'early bird' price may be a bit higher than the production units.

I hope so, typically the KickStarter price is below MSRP. But sometimes things are reversed overseas ;)

Heh. Yeah I hear you. Not sure. But their other kits are now cheap I noted.

Besides, surely this is a cheap price to pay to go with your sweater from last year Chris?

Oh WOW!!!!!!! I still have that sweater, perhaps I need to install some CREE LEDs this year.

I remember those Kenya Tree, PC Bulb days.. ;)

So much has changed since then.

Yeah, kickstarter's are usually cheaper or MSRP with first run. Knowing prices on components and that they have resources to build or have these built. I don't see why these are so expensive.

But, with the video it seems like fundraising more than anything.

Yeah, Rewire it! Dimmable, storm mode...
