Unfortunately misbars are due to water quality and not a genetic trait passed to offspring. So if you have a misbar female you are no more likely to have misbar babies then if you had a perfectly striped female. When I started breeding I had a pair of Maroons that spawns nest of 1200 at a time every 6 days. She was almost 7" in size and was a misbar. All of her offspring had perfect stripes.

In my first hatch of snowflakes I had several misbars only to find out that I had left them in the larvae tank for too long and the water quality had deteriorated. The larger they get and the more you feed the harder it is to keep ammonia down.

I could produce an misbar at any time - but I don't really want to play with poor or less then par water quality because of some of the other problems they could incur with their health.
