Got a great deal on a 4 1/2 " branching hammer at the LFS today...granted, it was a deal for a reason. When they received the coral, one side, about 3/4" seems void of tentacles. It has been in their reef tank for a few weeks and isn't losing any more flesh, so I guess this is a good sign. I'm wondering if it will grow over the bare area or just continue growing without it. I hope it doesn't die all together, but I suppose that is always possible. Any advice, opinions?

Keep an eye on it and see. I have heard of some regeneration of damaged tissue and others that did not. Keep us posted.

Will do. The remaining tissue looks very happy in my tank, much better than in the LFS. I'll keep an eye on it!
