I can testify to this as well. Started with dry rock, dry sand, a (dead) shrimp, and MB7 dosing daily for 2 weeks. Have not seen a noticable reading in nitrites or nitrates (dont have a test for ammonia, but will test at the LFS). Confused me too, because after 2 weeks, I thought I'd see a trace of nitrites... nothing. I do have algae though :p

I'm tagging along. This will be very useful, especially if one has to set up and maintain a QT in a hurry.

I'm watching as well. I just did a cycle in my 36gal bow with a clownfish and Dr Tim's O&O. Worked as described, both ammonia and nitrites never got too high and came down as they should.
However, just when my 'trites were reaching 0, my clown began acting strange and having a hard time breathing. It passed away by the end of the day. All params tested good so not sure why the fish died. Could be a coincidence, but I now know why people go "fishless."

Oddly enuff, something similar happened at our place, however, the fish eventually cycled the tank on its own and recovered, which is what prompted the idea for the "round robin".

Unfortunately, my mom was just diagnosed with a fractured pelvis and multiple myeloma, so pretty much everything has been put on hold till she gets out of rehab and we finish the necessary modifications to her house...

Hold on a minute, I use fresh Salt water in a bucket for my QT, and it works fine.

    ??

Sorry to hear about your mom. The pelvis sounds like a pathologic fracture.

My tank is now cycled, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 8.0 ph, around 2 nitrates, but no fish. I do have some algae growing so I am going to add a few cuc's to the tank tomorrow.
So sorry to hear about your mom, hope all is ok!
