I have inherited a quanitity of "BlackPowder" by Marc Weiss. Anybody have any objective information about whether the stuff is useful?

    It's dessicated cattle blood

Your corals will react to it due to chemoreception. I'm not sure how much nutrition is in it. Probably none.

Remember that Polyp Extension does not mean usable food.

I used this product before, to tell you the truth I didnt see any noticable difference in any of my corals. I've tried about all and any kinds of coral foods available and my conclusion is that DT's phytoplankton or Phytofeast is the best when it comes to filterfeeders, and for coral food I live religiously on Cyclopeeze. Get the frozen, the freeze dried just floats to the top and is nothing but a waste of money. My corals go bonkers over this stuff. You will definitely see them react, after using this stuff I have seen noticable polyp extension in all of my corals including SPS.

I just read a thread from a few years ago about this stuff. I don't know where idea that it is dried cattle blood came from since there is no ingredient list available anywhere. Nonetheless, I think I will refrain from using it for now.

I saw this label. It seems pretty vague to me. Animal by-products? What kind? And quartz?
