why would you do this? I can see if you have it in a tank that is to small and he breaks his spines trying to move around. But I have always heard if there spines get to short it can kill them.

every once in a while i see one with rediculously long spines in a tank, and i think that must inhibit movement of the animal.

    great article, Slocal

would LPS corals like the bubble be at risk from the spines on these creatures?

    Thanks Steve :)

I wouldn't put it past the LSU to run into the bubble and possibly damaging it by accident with a spine. These guys are strong and will only stop if they run into something solid.

I just picked one of these amazing animals up over the weekend. Do they shed the spines? Is it normal ?

    Hmmm

Love those guys...but I can't have one if I already have a large hermit, can I...?

Uhhh, OK, the LFS told me I could have one with my hermit so I bought one and he travels all over my 75g. But his favorite spot is trying to climb on the powerhead and so I have tried to place a net over it. I don't know what to do because I love the urchin but I think he may one day get into the powerhead and die. He already pulled off my thermometer and poked a couple pineapple sponges on accident.

Also, I guess if I want xenia or a hairy mushroom I should take him back? What do you think, especially about this powerhead issue?
