Yeah I will for sure, last thing though, return pumps generally hook up directly to a PCV bulkhead right? and back to the dt?

I prefer the cpr over the utube style because if the power goes out chances are your lookn at a flood.if your worried about the integrity of the pump get a prefilter from tom aquatics for$ 4 and a y nipple nd use 2 pumps. I have been running my diy pvc overflow like this for about a year and it works through every power outage we have had.

The power has gone out several times and my utube overflow (eshopps) restarts...no floods at all.

the tank shouldn't overflow if you get a U-tube box with dividers to keep the siphon.

problems with U-tube happen when bubbles get trapped at the top.

I had a CPR, and it worked ok. I now have the eshopps and it works great. Less chance of failure with the eshopps. I would never go back to the CPR style, but overall, I would probably get a reef ready tank with a built in overflow, thats what I'm looking at next.

Just get the 800gph, my pump only puts out 400gph. Your pump doesnt need to be the perfect gph as your overflow. The overflow will only bring water down to the sump as fast as the pump can put it in the tank
