ok, its been awhile since ive posted on here, tank is still up and running solid. ive had a long spiny sea urchin in the tank for about 2 months. today i was looking at the rock work and saw this small(dime size) black spike thing. i have no idea what it is, to me i think it looks like a baby urchin but have no idea about urchins reproductive system. someone please tell me what it is. thanks

Could be a hitchhiker urchin. I have one that came with LR. It looks just like that one.

it is a long spinned black urchin. Very cool hitchhiker I bought one at the LFS when I had my other tank. Unfortunately what is bad about them is that they are bulldozers when it comes to frags...will knock everything over as it gets bigger, esp in a 55g tank. You might want to trade him into the LFS

Here is an article on sea urchins. At the bottom of the page is a list of some of the common sea urchins.

If you know where your LR came from it may help identifying it.

I dont really know how they reproduce, but it looks like that would be a baby

3 months isn't very long in the "hitchhiker just showed up" world LOL.
It could easily have come out of the rock.
