Yeah I'm going to boarding school soon, so if I got something like this it could keep my tank from being taken down! (Not sure as yet if I would let my 7 year old brother do wcs... :))

So if I understand this correctly this changes a small amount on a daily basis correct?

If that is the case you would not need an ATO as you could just adjust the AWC to match your evaporation amount

You might begin to notice salinity creeping up, as you would be replacing evaporation with salt water, and not pure ro/di... Just something to consider.

The point of this type of system is to do daily water changes from a larger container of freshly made water. This way, there is no adjustments made, just set and forget. Then mix up water once a week (or however much your container holds) and start all over again.

The ATO would still be needed to keep up with evaporation and still keep the hands-off approach to the system.

Also tagging along btw, anything that reduces the labor involved w/ water changes is a game changer for me. Balancing water changes and watching my 11 month old son are becoming quite incompatible...;)

This is totally correct. I suppose you could play around with some things and put in slightly more, slightly lower salinity water, but it would likely not keep up over time and require some manual adjustments - not recommended.
