the bigger the tank, the easier to aquascape. I try to have as much open space between each piece of rock. I really like islands and lagoons. In smaller tank where the rock wall is almost inevitable, I try to keep lots of archways and open space for fish to swim.

IMO when you have more depth, and sometimes length and height to work with it's easier, larger could mean a 55 gallon 48 x 12 x 21, but a 40B 36 x 18 x 17 would probably be easier to scape.

Your right. depth is great to work with. 55 standards are a pain to aquascape.

I think what would be AWESOME in this thread is for people to post their aquascapes. I know I need a new one and I'm a visual person.....is that possible?? I would love to see pics of various scapes....

What kind of tank will this be (this will influence your 'scaping)? FOWLR, reef, etc?

What do you plan on keeping (this may also influence your choices)?

What are your tank dimensions (I looked, but didn't see them)?

Whenever I 'scape a tank, I consider the above, then I look at the rock I have to work with and go from there. My biggest goals are to make the structure stable, and for it to look the least like a "stack of rocks" while giving my fish/critters an appropriate environment in terms of caves, overhangs, open space, etc.

Here are a few examples of some of our tanks:

I personally like the wall in my 125g with as much space between the rocks. I tried to keep corals in mind when i scraped.

I generally like islands connected by bridges done simply without too much rock work making it look cramped.
