They seem really cool. My LFS had some frags in that were pretty bleached out but they had the yellow base and blue tips. I love the smooth skined acros.

They are beauties for sure, but for some reason I can not keep any of the closely related Acropora Enchinata, they just never do much of anything for me. Not much PE and a slow decline.

    Blue Iris, yes?

It's been around for quite a while, but it's not very common.

Never seen this in the UK, looks like an interesting coral... Are they more common in the US?

    Cheers,

I don't know I've never really heard of them. I had a Hawkin's Blue Cheryl, that survived neglect from my 55 and it live up until the tank shuffle. I really liked it. Yes this is the Blue Iris. I find it strange alot of people report this acro to be very fragile I though ORA leaned towards the more hardy specimen to propagate.

Yes mine was a Blue Hawkins, I think it lasted like 3 months before giving up the ghost. If I have a bigger tank and maybe a skimmer I might have better luck. I absolutely love the ice/fire smooth skin but I just do not think I could do it justice.

MarineGuy, yes variations of this coral in the US are common. If you like to coral window shop, I suggest ORA.com, Liveaquaria.com and Vividaquarium.com.

I hope the echinata like acro i have coming in flourishes. Its pretty amazing; metalic green boy, deep blue tips.

Blue Iris: released in Aug 2009.

I have a Hawkins that's still doing quite well for me; nicely growing. It's quite deep in my tank, however. I did sit idle for many months before it started to grow.

Sidenote: Hawkins is an A. turaki; not an A. echinata (as named)
