OK and also post them here as other people if caught up with all that reading may help us out.
John knows what he is talking about but needs all the info so he can come up with some ideas.

Also like posted on other thread ammonia can come from freshly mixed salts... it's when it stay in the tank that it becomes an issue.

Have not added anything for over a month. cal stayed over 550 alk 4.5 to 5 during this time.
last week or so did 3 x 17 gallon water changes every 3rd day.
viniger was used to drop pH but seems it was temp as it is back at 8.6.

    OK,  Just a few things.

    Stop adding vinegar.

Take a sample of the tank water ( one pint approx ), put it in a suitable ( very clean ) container and put in an air stone.  Let that run for 24 hours and then post the PH reading of the sample.

Clean the Alk and Calc test kit components thoroughly with white vinegar, flush with clean water and do tests again, post results.

Take all the supplements and lock them in a cage and throw away the key :)

Stop doing water changes for now and do not remove any more substrate.

    John :)

ok.. i will let you know. as far as supplements they already been banished to the isle of bad advice! you know, the one founded by LFS.

i still want to go glass bottom becasue eventually this year i hope to have everything moved into my 75 gal bowfront with a DSB. is there a reason to keep the substrate?

We have all been bitten, so don't worry too much, it's all part of the experience. There is an old saying that I will probaly misquote, but here goes

" Fool me once: Shame on you. Fool me twice: Shame on me "

Purely selfish on my behalf :)

To late I think he removed all the shells so called crushed coral.

If it is out of the tank then trash it.

Oh well, if the substrate has been removed then definately chuck it ! Either way just let us know.

If you have removed the substrate however I would still be interested in Alk and Calc reading before and after you clean the test kits with white vinegar :)
