    At first look it appears to be some kind of brown algae growing on rock.

    On closer inspection they are little brown polyps.

    They are spreading slowly about tank --- but only in places where there is little else...on overflows, bare rock space --- and only in colony's.

    Have been around now for a few months and are not yet a nuisance - but expect they may be in future. - actually they sperad so slowly, I suspect either fish or crabs are grazing on them.

    hard to tell from that picture, could be brown star polyps or could be a ton of little aiptasia's. Its hard to make out from the pic.

    Fish and crabs are unlikely to graze on the star polyps either. They are very hardy and also come in a couple shades of green!
