Danny, lots of corals can/need to be fed..i feel all my LPS corals once every week or so..In the ocean there is enough "stuff" in the water for them to eat and stay healthy, but in our tanks we try to keep out as much "stuff" as we can..so a few brine shrimp shot their way helps out a little..sun corals and other's that are non-photosynthetic HAVE to be fed though..

In the ocean there is a constant supply of nutrients to feed corals. They get supplied by the ocean currents and tide movements.. These corals also live at depths lower then the corals who feed by photosynthesis..

You need to feed them because they lack the symbiotic zooanthellae so can't use light for food. Non-photosynthetic corals need to be fed zooplankton, so ideally small morsals such as copepods and rotifers or blended clams/brineshrimp/krill/mysis. People do use phytoplanton but this isn't absorbed by the corals, it will feed pods which in turn will feed the corals.

You can feed yeast as well apart from this isn't as nutritious for the corals.

It might, but some like dendros and sun corals pretty much NEED actual meaty foods fed to them in an aquarium. Our tanks just don't provide enough food for them otherwise, despite adding phyto and such.
