I seen that too Corailine but I suspected it is naturally occurring, hence my "water & sump" questions.

I need my wife to take a picture because her camera is to fancy and I do not know how to use it. I am a biologist I am not into the technology stuff like her camera. Hell i can barely use a cell phone. ha ha
Any way I use RO/DI from BRS 6 stage filter. 0 TDS. In the sump is the protein skimmer and I use carbon in a filter bag and I runa phosphate reactor with Ecobak. As for the flow I'm not sure. It has an Eschopps overflow with 1" PVC. For the return I use Mag 3. For internal circulation I use Vortech MP10 and Koralia nano 425 gph.
    Bulbs are 3 months old.
    I do not dose anything.
    I use Oceanic salt.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Does the clownfish reside in the anemone?

Are you feeding the anemone and if so what and how often?

The clown will go back and forth from the torch to the nem, but the majority of the time he is in the nem. I also know that he is in the nem at night. The nem was doing this before he started hosting the clown. As a matter of fact the nem was in the tank for while before the clown even paid any attention to it.

If you get a chance please post a picture of the anemone when it is not doing this gapping.

Is the anemone staying in one location or moving around the tank?

I have had too many BTA's over the years to even count, even little things that do not seem relievent turn out to be a big clue. That is the reason for all the questions.

Any other anemones in the tank?

I feed krill and squid 1 -2 times a week but the clown will also feed it.

It has stayed in this spot for a week now.

If you are not running any carbon in the tank you might try that as well.

He is not getting enough light. I can tell that by the color and the stubby tentacles, although you are feeding him it needs more intense lighting.

If you get a chance I would test your water for phosphates, the appearence of green hair algae in an established tank may be related to elevated nutient levels which the anemone is probably not happy with either.

Thank you very much for providing the pictures.:)
