Mine is red sea too, but it's a kit that also has mag and calc. It's $50.
That's actually not too bad for all that, does it include PH as well? Do they have more than one type of test? Yours sounds way way more complex than mine. I really appreciate all your help
Something To Also Think About...Since Your Mixing Your Own Water, Have You Tried Testing The New Water Before Putting It Into Your Tank? Little Problems Become Big Problems If Every Parameter Doesn't Matter. Since You Are DoingClose To A 40% Water Change Regularly (I'm Taking Into Account Estimated Water Displacement From Your Live Rock And Substrates) And If Anything Is Off, YouReally Shock Your System. I Might Suggest Splitting Your water Changes, Try Only Like 5 Gal Weekly, Then Even If One Of Your Parameters Is Slightly Off It Won't Have As Dramatic Of An Effect To Everything. I Always Like To Try Things That Don't Cost Any money Before Running Out And Wasting Hard Earned Cash.
THanks Moondogg. I was only doing 5 gal water changes until about 6 weeks ago. I increased it due to the corals receding (figuring they weren't getting enough good nutrients) and due to an algae problem. I believe this is due in part because of phosphates and in part because of too much lighting from outside the tank, so the larger water changes were supposed to help get some of the phosphates out and many of the algae spores. I should also note, until about 6 weeks ago there were also no fish in the tank for the last 4 months. I was covering the tank with a towel during the "off" hours for the lights which helped A LOT with the algae growth, but I would like to get something lighter weight that will still block outside light as well as the heavy towel I was using. Think I'm gonna use velcro strips to make some little curtains for the tank when the lights are off, since the algae is getting really bad now that the days are getting longer.
