Sounds like it may have been brooklynella or marine velvet to me.

What would cause something like that? And is it possible that it came on the plugs that the coral got attached on?

Yes it could have. It only takes one drop of water.

    Just throwing this out there.

Did you rinse your gfo and carbon? how thick is the sand bed? Could it have gone through a mini cycle.

When you set up your ro did you rinse out the filters or let them run off?

Very sad to hear about the losses - it's tough.

How are the corals reacting? have you tested since getting home?

I did rinse the GFO and carbon before placing in. my bed varies but mostly 3 inches average so it's kinda deep. the RO unit I let it run for an hour before using any of the water as they mentioned in the instructions. I'm about to get on my flight now to home so this evening I can't wait to test out the water parameters and all. And the corals are apparently doing very well and all opened up looking healthy. It's a very weird outcome that couldn't have come at a worse time being away and all. Been trying to search around with anyone else with similar situations and the best info I'm getting is from all you guys here posting with suggestions which I can't wait to do the tests and all.

I finally got back and checked my water....to add to the mystery
    PH 8.2
    Ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
    Nitrates was high at 40ppm
    Temp 79

When I came home I found the water to be looking cloudy and the last damsel that died looked like it's been dipped in bleach...all white, which eliminates Ich I guess because it wasn't spots of white. My inverts are enjoying the meal now. Guess now my next step is to do a series of daily water changes to try and start over. Corals are doing good.
