They should always be out if the tankmates are right.

The only truly cryptic ones, are the Wetmorella.

 

Actually, I think this goes back to your first sentence, as my W. nigropinnata (Yellow Banded) is always out in my 28 All peaceful tankmates (well the Bue Spotted Jawfish controls the tank) and plenty of rockwork for him to go in and out of in search of pods. I imagine in a lively, larger tank, you would hardly see one though.

 

I just swung by the LFS potters wrasse and a red tail tamarin..... im so mad I dont have space.

They can get aggressive once mature; not that your experience will be just that, but be mindful.

First wrasse I ever bought was a juvi laboutei. Had it for less than a day when it went right through the eggcrate cover...
