I felt I didn't provide more details for you guys to help me to trouble shoot:
    Here is what I have:

    • 50 gallon glass tank, so far FOWLR (but the F is pretty thin)
    • RENA XP3 canister filter
    • CPR Bak Pak skimmer
    • 2x65 watt 12000k; 2x65 watt actinic JBJ Aqua Light
    • 13 watt Jebo UV
Beside the parameters I mentioned earlier, the salinity is kept at 1.024 and temp at 81F. I always top off the display tank with RO permeate from the kitchen.

One cow fish and one yellow tang were just sent back to the display tank three days ago due to ick issue. They seem to do fine with a badage shrimp and a little tiny horseshoe crab.

One fire fish is the the QT and the other two, long nose and percula went to fish heaven this morning.

I'm thinking to modify a 10 gallon glass tank to refugium pretty soon and get rid of the canister.

    I'm eager to learn...Educate me, guys, please;D.

I was reading from some articles saying that parasites can't survival at low salinity, but fish normally can. Plus, it's easier for fish to excrete salt from their body thus less stress for them (not for long though). Unfortunately, I have not proof any of these in real life.

BTW, the low salinity was only performed in QT, not in the main display tank.

It's true for ich. I don't know about other parasites.

One important thing when doing a hyposalinity treatment is to lower the fish slowly, over the course of a couple days (4-5), down to the low salinity, or it can mess with their bodily processes.

Were these fish sick when you bought them? When ever I buy fish from my LFS I give them a good check to make sure they look good and then bring them home, let them float in the bag in their new tank for an hour or so and then I release them. I have never had any trouble yet after 5 years. It's so hard in this hobby to know what is right or what is wrong and I'm sure my way isn't correct either but maybe try to give them a little less aggressive quarantine.

They seemed to be OK when I got them.

I tend to believe now the less the stress, the better for the fish. But I just don't dare to think about the idea of one sick fish wiping out the whole tank. I will rethink about the aggressive quarantine.

One curious thought though, how do LFS sustain the lost since all the tanks seem to be connected together? I never see them use "quarantine tank".

Most LFS will just go "Oh well, we'll order another". A select few have more reputable sources that do a QT, or they'll do a QT.
