    Your question is not a simple one. I assume you are trying to educate yourself before the purchase of an Acan perhaps? Don't get too bogged down in the minutia of detail! There are experts that have difficulty identifying some corals w/o exposing the skeleton. It can be difficult.:)

    Ok, here's where the confusion can set in because there is an Acanthastrea Faviaformis in the Mussidae family. Your referring to the family Faviidae.

    thanks birdlady you are a lot of help always!!!! thank you too vamp...you guys helped alot..my lfs carries only what they call moon coral,but by the website that birdlady has shown me, i think the one i like is called Acanthastrea lordhowensis.
