so i have been running chemi pure elit and purigen for 3 months in a DIY media rack i made out of egg crate. My question is, once you start useing RO water for water changes that has no phosphates or nitrates and your tests for Phosphate and Nitrates are good, do i need this in my system anymore???
I am thinking that the bags of these chemicals my be a "Nitrate Phactory" and if i dont need them in my system anymore i could maybe move my heater into the chamber the media rack is in??/:confused:

They are only a Nitrate factory if you allow the filter bags to collect detritus.

There's only one way to find out;D. If it starts to climb again, put the media back.

it all depends on your system also keep in mind your cost? is it cheaper to test more often or just keep buying media?

thats a very good point Nightstick. But if i am using RO water for top offs and waterchanges, i dont see how phosphates would be introduced to my system again. Nitrates on the other hand are always present, low levels but there.
