Thanks. You're probably right. I built the doors today. Etched glass is going inside.

I agree with Oldfishkeeper looks good. I put four coats of clear on mine. Marine quality too. Sanded it in between each coat. I think it looks great once you trim it out and finish I guarantee you'll be happy.

Interesting. What grit did you sand with in between and for how long?

200 for the first two then 400 grit for the last two. Had I sprayed it on it would of had cabinet grade finish on it. lightly sand it though no elbow grease necessary. make sure you clean all dust off between coats most important.

I just went down to take a look at the stand. After a stain and a clear coat, it had a rough feel to it; almost as if it wasn't sanded previously. I lightly sanded it with a 200 grit and it has a smooth texture now.

I wonder if I can try staining it once more or if it's too late?

It really depends if you can see the grain or not. The thickness of the clear coat. If you try it do it on the side in the bottom corner and see if it takes.

The clear coat was very thin. The first coat seemed to thin the stain out. My rag was brown afterwards.

The wood is birch, actually. I can still see the grain.

I think another coat of stain would do fine. Then use the spray clear coat so not to disturb the stain once its applied I think that may work great for you.
