i set both up in my fuge, 24oz of mud inside a cricket cage, 5" of dry sand, and 1 cup of sand from my display to seed the fuge sand. I have a 10g Aqueon HOB filter with the intake tube running inside the cricket cage and returning it out into the fuge with the rest of the water and back in again, what passes through this area of the fuge goes through 2 filter sponges, and then into my main pump.

debating on adding active carbon inside a filter sock inside the HOB filter

    Thanks for the ideas.

I could add a separate chamber for some mud but it would be very small.

If I do mud how deep would it need to be?

Following. I'll be doing something similar for a pico tank in a month or so. I plan to do three chambers...

    1. Refugium
    2. Coral propogation/frag rack
    3 live rock/return

Where will you be getting glass for baffles?

Not sure but I don't think it matters, some people go with high flow most go with low. I added a Aqueon 55 HOB Filter with a bio-filter reducing the return flow, but it gives the fuge extra water movement and a place (if i want) to add active carbon w/o it being in my actual fuge. So far I've noticed a huge explosion in pod populations and so far everything seems to be okay

Just ordered the JBJ Oceanstream Circulation Pump/Powerhead + Duo Wavemaker Kit 500 gph kit. Tired of one big power head, or two power heads that arent getting the job done. This is a great deal because it also includes the wavemaker. I don't think it's going to create a wave effect like the vortechs but it should do a great job at mixing up the flow, spinning things around, and generating a nice back and forth current
