haha it thought you said a bad word....

But i agree, might as well, that way you could sell it as a regular tank, or have it for another bright idea you come up with later. I have there overflow as well, and i love it.

why do i even need an overflow? why cant it just be a drain hole with a bulkhead? not like there is going to be any fish or anything that's gonna get sucked down it.

It will be loud unless you use an elbow or a overflow box. really loud

heck, even the elbow can be loud. My friends tank just has an elbow. its kinda tilted to side and is pretty quite.

You basically just described an overflow kit from them, minus the box. You can get away with just a hole, and bulkhead and strainer. Ive seen tons of tanks like that. But a kit from them is relatively cheap, and you get the holesaw you need, and it looks nice. Just up to you. If you have the holesaw and bulkhead thats made for the size hole you need. then do that.

Tagging along, I would like to see how this plays out, I was thinking about doing the same thing only with a 29 gallon frag tank and a 55 gallon DT. I have a 30 gallon sump with chaeto and an ASM g2 skimmer.

Costs about $100 but it's worth it to do it right. surface skimming is much better than just a hole. And it's very quiet with one of there overflows.

That's a good idea, if you are going to go that route the elbow would be much better than just a strainer.

Surface skimmer pulls more organic waste out making your filtration more efficient.

And you will almost certainly end up with a fish in there eventually.
