Just did a few par readings, 500 on the bottom of a 40B, I couldn't believe my eyes. Way in the corners, it is around 100. You could easily raise the fixture to get it to 200 or so all around at max power. Also, it was about 1000 3/4 of the way up, so dimming is a MUST.

How far off the tank was the light with those readings?

hey reefbreeder, i have one more question with the light coming this week and me without a par meter...im curious where i should stop when slowly acclimating my corals and ramping up the power on the fixture...at the top of the tank will be sps and in the middle some sps and mostly lps, with zoas and shrooms and leather at the bottom, any ideas on what % i should ramp the lights up to??

the light will end up being being around 12" off the surface i think.
thanks for any help you can give.

Usually people start around 20% power, and ramp about 5% every few days.

i believe he was asking, at what % say like %80 for full power, should he stop? You said dimming is a must? So what % gets you optimal par for sps at top at 12" above water?

Depends on what kind of corals you have, most people stop at around 70-80
