I am guessing they measured at the peak of the curve.

i guess the bowfront would be hard to get an exact measurement?

When the measure the the tank they use outside dimensions... meaning length x height x width (at widest point of bow-front). There is no easy way to get the exact volume of bowfront tanks due the loss of water volume in the shape of the bow. I could see easily the tank dimensions loosing 4-5 gallons volume because of it.

Yes, it is. The problem is most volume calculators are meant for rectangular tanks. I would guess if you measured the short side of the tank.and plugged that into the calculator it would give a 20 gallon or so volume. Take that, add it to the first volume you measured from the peak of the curve and divide by 2. I bet it gives you a number closer to the 26 gallons the tank was advertised as.

Note, this way, while closer is not perfectly accurate.

Give me the dimensions of the rectangular portion of the tank (length, width and height--specify the measurements) and then give me the distance of the red line in the picture.
