I just figure, why dump the water from a water change? I can change a little more water than normal and put it in my tank.

I have found that using water from a mature tank will also speed up the cycle.

I hope that this tank cycles fast. I want to be able to put stuff in it.

Finally cleared up enough to get a good shot.

Here it is, wet and cycling.

Just a quick update. Hair algae took over and my false wall exploded on me. I rebuilt with new acrylic and used water weld and it is holding fine. I had another hair algae outbreak and I couldn't get rid of it. It is currently sitting in my garage waiting for me to move and build it a sump with an algae scrubber.

I like number 4. It seems with this method you would be able to add/remove turf scrubber with ease. I would put the turf scrubber pump in the fuge section to make sure water levels stay constant. Or have the algae scrubber outlet run into the skimmer section. If the pump moves faster than the water through those baffles you could run the skimmer section dry. I don't experience with turf scrubbers though...
