    A hydrometer or refractometer, do a google search and you will find plenty! The general concensus on here is a refractometer is well worth a little extra money, about $50 compared to $8 for a hydrometer, but you get what you pay for! There are all sorts of horror stories about hydrometers not working right and reading wrong. Well worth the investment in my opinion, we have way too much money and time wrapped up into our tanks to take a $40 chance on a cheap peice of equipment!! Here is a link to the refractometer I have:

    There are a lot of high quality refractometers out there, but if you decide to get one make sure it has ATC (Automatic Temperature Compensation)

    thanks ill see if my LFS sells a good one
    but for now if i bring a good amount of water to the store tomorrow im sure theyll test it for me

    i am going to the fish store in a half hour for a fish.
    my temperature is at 80.1 right now.
    how can I get the temperature down?

    turn the little knob on the heater a little bit lower ;)

    it has to be......otherwise you wouldnt get that high of a temperature......

    really? maybe thermometer is whacked out? What temp is the room?
