    the room was 77 but i put it to 72 maybe thats why?
    my dad likes to raise the temp when we are not home but if it affects the tank i will make sure he doesnt do that anymore

    the thermometer must be whacked out, if the tank is at 81, and room at 72, its not possible for water to be that hot. heck, it should be much cooler.

    i put my finger in the tank and it was not hot if it was at 80 it would feel warm wouldnt it?

    yes it would ;) Are your lights on? and is thermometer a glass or digital one?
    im guessing digital. I only trust the simple glass ones, as they are really accurate. Omard had trouble with his digital thermometers. Caused some livestock to be "unhappy" :-/ My digital one blew up cause of salt creep :p

    lights are off in fact the room is dark also lol. thermometer is digital
    i will take out my thermometer and return it i will buy a new one today at a different store (i didnt go to my usual place to get the thermo it was closed) and i will return it

    dont do so yet. Perhaps there is another factor. let tank sit for an hour with nothing on, and then check temp. if it lowers, somethings not right.

    what if its not a problem with the thermometer?
    I am getting the fish today so if i get home and put the glass thermometer in what should i do if it is the same?

    when you mean nothing on thats excluding the filter right?

    will it be a problem if i get the fish right now i called the guy to ask him a question at the store and i told him i was coming in today so i dont want to not go in
