    Happened to me and cost 6k in flooring. A friend came up with a great failsafe that may work for you. I think you mentioned a drain that's near by. What I did was drilled I hole into the side if my container about an inch below top. I installed a bulkhead and drain line to my drain. If you forget the water will spill into the overflow line and down the drain, like a bathtub overflow. I could leave it for a week and the ro will just overflow into the drain. Good backup if the timer and float don't work.

    i have a float switch as well, but never hurts to have a backup to the back up.

    also, there are a few different float kits out there, and a few of them do not stop the flow of water through the rodi unit, but just stop the flow to the reservoir. An auto shut off kit, will stop the water to the rodi, i believe.
