 |  Help with caulerpa
Hi all. This is a question related to refugium, but really about getting rid of the grape caulerpa in my main tank.  Grape caulerpa has invaded my main tank from my fuge. It grows very quickly and is impossible to simply pull it all out. Is there anyway to get rid of it? Any species I can add that will feed on it?

LOL!! How ironic! I already smooshed one, but I suspect more. Where are you BBell? I'll give you mine!
Question for ya.....do you shut the lights off in your fuge? The day nite cycle can make grape caulerpa release spores into the water column.
I have feather caulerpa and some red gracilaria in my fuge and I keep the light on 24/7 _________  I Love My Sig By John Hawkins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah. BL has some nice snails for grape caulerpa!
incidentally (ahem!)....why are you putting it to waste?
wash the caulerpa well, lightly wash with mild soap, rinse 3x. and then....put some vinegar or apple cider. Then...EAT! hehehehe....seafood salad from your refuge.
no kidding. it is crunchy, non-toxic, full of iodine and non-fattening (the seaweed turns brown as vinegar cooks it). why waste it?

I retired the reef for now. Maybe a nano or a softies tank in the future when I have both time and money. 60 gallon FOWLR in the meantime. My echidna nebulosa are still going strong! | |

Blech! All I would be able to think of is all the fish poop that caulerpa helped to remove and that I was now eating!!!! Besides, I don't even have enough to make a garnish yet! LOL! | |

Poop...is what the plant kingdom (and my Hippo Tang sometimes) consider as food......look at the vegetables and fruit areas in a grocery and all that was made from mass and mass of materials from poop. LOL!

Birdlady: I'm in Columbus Ohio... in my setup your slugs might wipe out all of my caulerpa. Do they eat all types of caulerpa or could any species do OK with the present? My fuge is actually 25% of my standard 75g. I divided the tank with a piece of acrylic to create a refugium that I circulate water from the main tank. The lighting hood stretches over the entire tank, so the fuge is on the same lighting cycle as the main tank. This is my first reef (actually salt water aquarium as well) and therefore first fuge... If I could do it all over I'd change the setup, but I'm not sure how to change it now.
Reiple: my wife doesn't like my "fish water" on anything, I'd have to move out in order to cook anything from the tank! | |
