I am building a refugium from scratch from acrylic, It will sit over my new 20 long sump( I picked up today) my question is this, could I drill a hole in the bottom of the fuge and place a 1" pvc pipe 2 inches from the top of the fuge for it to drain down into my tank, much as a stand pipe does in a main tank?

I don't see why not, I'm doing pretty much the same thing with the fuge I just constructed, only difference is that I have about 18" of flex tubing run to drain into my sump because my fuge does not sit directly above the sump.

I would just drill a hole in the side of it near the top so that when you fill it with water it just get to s certain point then drains in the sump. Mine is about 4.4 " from the top rim of a 30g tank.
