I Just bought some white star polyps and acclimated them via drip. How long should it take for the polyps to open ? My new yellow polyps opened within minutes... so I am a little worried...

    Thanks,
    Allen

    Newbie question:

what you mean by acclimated ?? by drip??

I thought acclimated meant "to get used to", but maybe not?? by drip??

sorry Im no help, as you can tell, still got lots of newbie blood in me!!!

    thanks for the info

Hehe! It does seem funny if you don't know what that is.... :D

Drip Acclimation....yes it does mean "to get used to".
When we bring animals home, the water they are in , by nature of all systems being different, is different than the water in our tanks...eg...temp, salinity, pH, etc. We all strive for common numbers but there are still variations.

Drip Acclimation is slowly dripping your tank water into a container with the new animal and its tank water...eventually coming to an equilibrium, or the animal getting used to the new tank water slowly so as not to stress the animal as much.

    Hope that helps ;)

The polyps shouldn't take any longer than a week to open, assuming your water levels are ok.

thanks birdlady..maybe something I need to try from now on...

I have been floating mine in the tank for 15 minutes , then insert!!!

My little button polyps and tube polyps opened within a few hours, button may be real different than star polyps...

Im trying to stick with things that have high tolerences...but I seem to learn different after the purchase!!!

    thanks again..

No problem Birdlady I did not feel dissed... realized that it must have been some momentary lapse of the question origianlly asked. Anyway for you and scooter... here's the answer.. the star polyps opened up within 3 hours... about 50 of them. Real nice. They are one of three corals in my tank right now. My yellow polyps opened up within 30 minutes...

    Anyway all looks well !

    Thanks,
    Allen
