Default My first anemone

Hey!

I just bought a 3-5" bulb tipped anemone from singapore. It is scheduled to arrive sometime Tuesday 7/25. Anyone got any tips for acclimation and feeding. What does your's do best on?

I read these have a higher rate of infection durring shipping and i'd like to take precautions, drip acclimation is best id assume for about an hour or so?

I decided to get this first so it can find a comfy spot to call home before there are corals for it to nock off my rockwall <3

weeeee!

Serotonin, BTA are nice addition to any tank. Do you have any clowns?

Placement, BTA will move anywhere they want they like light, low flow and make sure your PH's intake are covered good. You might even want to create a basket like cover with some egg crete to keep it away from the suction.

Acclimation: since it has been in the same bag for 24+ hours I would try to get it into your tank as quick as possible. 30min tops on a semi quick drip, it will be fine.

Feeding: I feed my two (split the coolest thing) Flake, mysis, krill and silver sides. My Clowns also feed it anything else they pick up like formula 1 + 2.

Post some pick when you have him placed in your tank.

Place it where you want it, chances are it may like it and stay. 99.9% sure he will move though. Just let him find his spot. At first, he might seem like he's hiding and secluding himself in dark spots, just leave him alone. Once the fear is gone, he will start moving to a place where he likes.

My BTA eats anything I feed him. He seems to like silversides a lot.

Acclimate for atleast 2+ hours with the drip method. Dont float for temp acclimation, start dripping for 2 hours. Since you are introducing your water, it has fresh oxygen.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I would assume I should try to feed it the day after it is first placed in my MT? I have also read they like moderate current. Some sites say they will sit in the sand, most say on the LR. I'll try to decide what part of my tank has the most moderate flow and place it there. Hard to say where at this point but ill do my best.

I'm super paranoid about it getting into my current overflow (PVC) so I'm now taking measures to build a box-style one out of acrylic glass. I've already had a turbo go down that baby and it isn't fun at all.

I'll try to post a pic or video of my LR, maybe I could get a suggestion or two on where to consider placing the lil dude when its journey to WI is over

Thanks again!

Just place it on the rockwork in a low flow area of the tank after you've finished acclimating it. The anemone will move to wherever it feels most comfortable, perhaps even hiding out behind your reef, until it has fully acclimated to its new environment. After a little while, it will move itself up to a more beneficial spot in your tank, hopefully, someplace where you can actutally see it Keep in mind that if the anemone settles in and you suddenly change its environment, either by changing lighting or water flow or the aquascaping, it very well might start be-bopping around the tank again until it feels comfortable again.

It's here , YAY! I'm so afraid to get stung! I think it's closed up, I can't see very many tenacles. Of what I can see, the color is great, no gray on it anywhere. Just a beautiful green with pink tips, weeeeeeeeeeeeee !

I think it's pedal disc (or "foot") is torn. I've never seen the inside of an anemone but can someone please confirm this for me? YIKES!

Thanks!

PS: the jpeg is attached in a zip archive.

Sorry I hope you don't think im overposting. I'm really worried that they just riped this poor guy off a rock and tossed it in a box. When I opened the box there was a foul smell. White strings like cooked ramen noodles were commint out of its mouth. The biggest hole it its pedal disc is almost an inch and a half. There are almost a dozen other ones that my wife and I have counted so far. Im so worried for my tank and the life of this creature. But what can I do.

I can't open zip files from home, I'm afraid. Is the anemone moving around? Is it's foot stuck to your rockwork? Tenticles sticky? If the answers to all these questions are "yes", then I wouldn't worry too much and just keep an eye on it. DO NOT try to feed the animal while it's adjusting to your tank.

It has climbed down the aquascape and is now just landing on the substrate, upside down. I've taken a picture of it while upside down and will put a high rez image up on my website here for a few days at least.

Thanks so much!
