    i just set up my new tank with covey's overflow and the whirlpool noise it makes is horrendous!!!!! i won't be able to sleep in my room if this is going to continue. please help me!!! i need peace and quiet. refer to my post in DIY called MY NEW STUFF!!!! to see what it looks like. help me!!

    What size pvc did you use? If it's one inch, my only guess is it's too small for the water to through smoothly....air has no way of escaping but the start of the overflow. Hmm...but air maybe able to escape from the vent...I don't know...I would suggest using 1 1/4" pvc. That's just me tho. Other might have a better solution.

    Is the noise coming from the intake or the vent? What size is the PVC and what GPH are you putting thru it?

    intake. i'm using 1" PVC at around 500 GPH

    i try some diferent things and this is the most quiet for my tank,
    90 degree elbow in the tank. (se picture)

    im using 1 1/4" pipe and 500 gallon waterflow
    and now only little noise comming from the vent, and little from the pipe down to the sump
    anybody having some ideas about get the vent more quiet, then its perfect,

    i've got the 90 elbow. i'm going to try to open up my strainer a little more

    since this experiment i have removed the strainer from my overflow. everything is kosher now. crossing my fingers for no more problems. tank has been noise free and beautiful for 4 days now. i'll post some pcs when i get some time.

    careful you don't have anything clog it without the strainer.

    Yes. I think we had a discussion about anemonies that like to take trips down the overflow tube!
